EVs
From Pokémon Fan Game Wiki
EVs or Effort Values are parat of what makes each pokémon unique. Effort values are gained by battling wild pokémon and NPC trainers, and when a pokémon levels up (via EXP) these values are added to their stats. It takes 4 EVs in a stat to make it gain an extra point (so if you battle 4 Caterpies, whose effort points are in HP, you would gain one extra HP point on level up). Only 510 effort values can be gained before they stop being counted. This means only 64 effort points (the ones that add to level up stats). There is a limit of 255 to any one stat, meaning 32 points.
Relevant Items
- The EXP Share not only shares EXP, but EVs too. However, while it divides EXP in half (300 becomes 150 each), it gives the pokémon holding it the same amount of effort values (3 EVs total means 3 EVs each).
- The Macho Brace doubles EVs gained.
- Rare Candy level-ups do not use EVs; they are 'rolled over' to the next level up. When a pokémon has 510 EVs, it's safe to use Rare Candies without the stat's being any worse.
Notes
- EVs are only gained in battles where EXP is gained, sych as wild or trainer battles. Link cable and Battle Tower battles do not count, for instance.
- Shadow pokémon EVs are stored but not added (like Rare Candy) until the pokémon is Purified.
